Formative and Summative Assessments at NHS

 1. Why do you want to focus on this area for your ICDP?

It is consistent with the NHS building goal of aligning formative assessments, summative assessments and priority standards.

2. What are you wanting to change about your practice and how will that impact student learning?

The goal is edit existing summative assessments to more clearly align with priority standards.

3. What school/class data shows this is an area of concern for you?

There is not current data that reflects this is an area of concern for me - however, I intend to track data consistent with my long term project (Links to an external site.)

4. What do you see as your topic for research?

There is no intent to perform traditional research as my ICDP is aligned with the NHS building goal.

5. How will this topic enhance and support student learning?

Identification of priority standards will articulate clearly defined expectations of summative assessment which will guide instructional scope and sequence as well as formative assessments that engage students in their comprehension and understanding of the intended learning outcomes.

6. Where will you look for resources on this topic?

Resources have been provided by Mr. Einsweiler, curriculum team meetings prior to the beginning of the school year, learning team meetings in which leveled assessments will be evaluated, and science curriculum meetings to collaborate on summative assessments.

7. How will you know you improved in this area? What evidence will you have?

Improvements will be discussed in AIW learning team meetings when summative assessments are discussed.

I should also be able to make a marginal comparison between historical data in the long term project as compared to data harvested this semester.
